THE GANNON AWARD

2009

For the Continued Pursuit of Human Advancement

for the Continued Pursuit of Human Advancement honors those who commit their lives to the betterment of humanity through creative or academic means.

The Gannon Award committee selects finalists annually from the fields of philosophy, arts, mathematics and the natural sciences by evaluating their career on criteria of integrity, ingenuity, professional recognition, and significance to the future of humanity. In consultation with respected colleagues in these fields, the committee chooses a winner from the slate of finalists.

The committee named Dr. Hans Rosling, professor of International Health at the Karolinska Institute, winner of the 2010 Gannon Award. With that announcement, the committee released his statement on promise and challenge of humanity’s future.

Dr. Rosling chose the Gapminder Foundation as the recipient of the Gannon Award’s honorarium in his name. We encourage you to follow Dr. Rosling’s donation with one of your own.
